Piper

Piper was the first Australian Shepherd in the household, and she helped inspire The Aussie Standard. At three years old, she and her littermate Yadi are the oldest of four full siblings; Rivers and Loui are their younger full siblings.

From the beginning, Piper has carried herself like the pack's natural leader. She is confident, observant and independent, with a clear preference for order over chaos. She watches the other dogs closely and, when play becomes overly wild, offers an appropriate correction before returning to her own business.

Piper is vocal and often barks as though she is supervising the pack. Beneath that bossy exterior, though, she is sweet and affectionate on her own terms. She does not need constant attention and is content to observe what is happening around her.

That steady independence carries into outings. Piper is reserved, does very well on walks and moves calmly through different environments without reactivity. On leash, she may protect her personal space near her person when another dog comes close, but she remains composed and easy to handle.

Around dogs and puppies at the breeder, Piper is more likely to watch than join chaotic play. If a correction is needed, she gives one appropriately, then returns to doing her own thing.

Piper does not need to be the center of attention. She just needs everyone to remember who is in charge.
